Character counter

Count your characters. And see where it gets cut.

Every counter tells you how many characters you’ve used. Almost none tells you where the platform puts “see more” — and that’s the only limit that really matters.

Those first two lines decide whether anyone clicks. Everything after is read only by people who were already convinced.

  • LinkedIn0 / 3,000

    cut after roughly 210

On desktop “see more” falls around 210 characters, earlier on mobile. Your first two lines decide whether anyone clicks.

  • Instagram0 / 2,200

    cut after roughly 125

In the feed you see about 125 characters before “… more”. So put the point up front.

  • Facebook0 / 63,206

  • TikTok0 / 2,200

Only a few lines show above the buttons. Keep it short.

How to use it

  • Put your question, your offer or your number before the line. What comes after is for people who already decided to read on.
  • A French translation is almost always longer than the Dutch. Check each variant separately instead of assuming it fits.
  • Where exactly the cut falls differs between phone and desktop, and platforms change these limits without notice.

Questions we get a lot

Are these cut-off points exact?

They’re approximations. On a phone the cut usually falls earlier than on desktop, and platforms adjust it quietly. Use them to weigh your first sentence, not to aim at a single character.

Is my text stored anywhere?

No. Everything happens in your own browser. Nothing goes to a server and nothing is saved.

Is this in Ploffo itself?

Yes, but not as a separate tool. In the approval file the cut-off line simply runs through your text, so your client sees straight away what shows.
